Desiree Williams - Miss Virginia USA 2016

Desiree Williams was crowned Miss Virginia USA 2016 on October 11, 2015 at beautiful Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, VA. She is 26 years old and of 5'7" tall. She will represent Virginia at Miss USA 2016 where Miss USA Olivia Jordan from Oklahoma would crown her successor. Desiree represented Newport News at the state pageant and succeeds Miss Virginia USA 2015 – Laura Puleo, finished Top 15 at Miss USA 2015.

Also at the event Gracyn Blackmore won Miss VA Teen USA 2016 and would be competing in Miss Teen USA 2016 where Katherine Haik of Louisiana would crown her successor. The princesses at Miss Virginia 2016 were Nayjah Mickens -  Little Miss Virginia Inspiring Princess and Hannah Grau - Jr Miss Virginia Inspiring Princess.

Desiree had her first degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Hampton University in 2011 and is currently studying Physical Therapy at the same University's Doctorate program. Desiree has quite good experience in beauty pageant as she was 1RU to Miss Virginia USA 2015 – Laura Puleo. and won Miss Virginia 2013 pageant which qualified her for Miss America 2014 held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In 2012, she finished as 1RU at Miss Virginia 2012 which qualified her for National Sweetheart pageant where she emerged winner (Miss National Sweetheart 2012). She also served as Miss Hampton University 2010/2011.

Virginia is one of the successful states in Miss USA pageant as it has won the pageant twice in 1969 and 1970 by Wendy Dascomb and Deborah Shelton respectively. Also bagged the 1RU twice in 1954 and 1994 courtesy of Ellen Whitehead and Patricia Southall respectively. Samantha Casey finished as 2nd runner up in 2010 and Sheryl Lynn Herring finished as 4th runner up in 1977. On several occasions has Virginia representatives finished as Top 10, Top 12, Top 15 and Top 20 also bagged special awards.
